Innovia Medical is a family of specialty surgical companies that are passionately committed to partnering with medical professionals to help elevate the delivery of care and improve patient outcomes. Each Innovia Medical company has a rich history that explains the products, people, and services you know today. To further explain and visualize our history, we’ve launched a page on our website called the Innovia Medical Journey. This week’s blog delves into the details referenced on our journey page.

Over the years, Innovia Medical has acquired companies that no longer exist as standalone manufacturers but that are now trusted brands with legacies spanning for decades like Shippert Medical and MD RESOURCE. Shippert Medical was founded in 1978 by Dr. Ronald Shippert after his successful invention of the Denver Splint. Later Shippert Medical and Summit Medical merged under Shore Capital Partners creating the foundation for the Innovia Medical family of companies.

Summit Medical

Once a small company called Micromedics with a limited product offering and less than 20 employees, Summit Medical has continued to grow within the last five years to two Minnesota, USA-based manufacturing facilities and OVER 75 employees! This is due in part to their integration with Shippert Medical in 2015 under what would later become Innovia Medical.

Since its inception, Summit Medical has always stuck to its engineering roots bringing innovative products to the market across numerous product lines on a nearly annual basis. These innovative products span across the medical field and include ENT, Sterile Processing, Aesthetic & Reconstructive, Ophthalmic products, and most recently PPE.

Network Medical

Established by Phil Weston in 1997, Network Medical began as an ENT-focused company but expanded shortly after to include ophthalmology products with the addition of the CORONET Standard Trephines. After launching various patent-protected ophthalmology products in the 2000’s, Network Medical moved into a new headquarters building that combined both office and manufacturing staff.

Shortly before their 20th anniversary, Network Medical expanded their UK manufacturing facility and opened a satellite sales office for CORONET products in Philadelphia, USA. In 2018, Network Medical was added to the Innovia Medical Family of Companies further expanding Innovia Medical’s product offerings.

Eagle Labs

Eagle Labs was founded in 1988 by Dennis De Camp. By 1996, the Eagle Labs had grown so large, they moved to a new facility in Rancho Cucamonga which is known as the heart of the Inland Empire (approximately 1 hour from L.A.).  In 2018, Dennis decided to retire and integrate his business into the Innovia Medical Family of Companies. Since becoming an Innovia Medical company, Eagle Labs has implemented operational improvements and leveraged the vast global expertise across the companies growing its manufacturing capabilities consistently.

DTR Medical

DTR Medical was founded in 2005 with the vision of becoming a successful medical device manufacturer of Sterile Single-use products for use in selected surgical specialties.

In 2019, Innovia Medical acquired DTR Medical adding 5 new surgical specialties to their offering including Gynaecology, General Surgery, Dermatology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics. The addition of DTR Medical also further strengthened Innovia’s ENT and Ophthalmic offering.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, DTR Medical and Network Medical worked together to switch 100% of production over to developing and manufacturing the Innovia Face Visor, adding another new surgical specialty for Innovia Medical. Towards the end of 2020, the Reusable Innovia Face Visor was developed to ensure a reduced environmental impact as well as a more cost-effective solution.

Through our family of companies that have changed over the years, our mission to improve outcomes for the global healthcare community and the patients they serve through innovative solutions has not changed. We remain passionately committed to elevating care and providing outcomes.
